Sheet 03 · Platform strategy
Why Not Only Copilot?
Copilot is part of the answer — not the whole answer.
Microsoft Copilot is excellent inside Microsoft 365: meetings, email, documents, and SharePoint knowledge. If your work lives in Office files, Copilot should be in the plan — and it is.
But Copilot alone leaves gaps:
- It cannot become your field-service reporting system. Structured intake, photos, job codes, and approval workflows need purpose-built software.
- It does not ground answers in your controlled document set with citations. A knowledge assistant needs retrieval limited to approved sources, with visible references and refusal when sources are missing.
- It is not suitable for restricted data workflows. Export-controlled or customer-controlled information needs local or isolated processing — which is where locally hosted models fit.
- It does not integrate with shop-floor or line-of-business systems without additional Power Platform or custom work, which should be scoped honestly as implementation effort.
The right pattern is routing: use each platform where it is strongest, governed by data sensitivity.
